I am attending a technology event
To the extent possible, I commit to:
- Suggest women panelists to the organizer;
- Encourage women to share their expertise whether it's on a panel, a conference or a workshop;
- Inform my network that I am participating to an event;
- Directly invite a women to the event;
- Denounce abusive or repressible behaviours I witness;
- Read, understand, sign and promote the Manifesto within my network;
- Encourage women to ask questions.
I am a technology event organizer
To the extent possible, I commit to:
- Achieve men-women parity in each of the following: panelists, speakers and moderators;
- Have a pay equity policy when speakers are paid;
- Achieve gender parity within the organizing committee;
- Take proaction and innovative actions to offer equal attending opportunities, i.e. offering preferential fares to women like Startupfest did in 2018;
- Use gender-neutral writing;
- Support participation of parents by offering a stop-over center for children;
- Create a code of conduct for my event;
- Denounce abusive or repressible behaviours I witness;
- Read, understand, sign and promote the manifesto within my network;
- Encourage women to ask questions;
- Discuss diversity at the beginning of the event organization;
- Take a public stand on the importance of diversity and share what efforts are being made;
- Feature women;
- Publish your events in networks that reach women in technology (i.e. Slack Women in Tech Montreal)
I am a technology expert
To the extent possible, I commit to:
- Claim parity for speakers, panelists and moderators to the events in which I present;
- Express disagreement when I judge the organizer hasn’t made the required efforts to reach parity and, if my absence doesn’t harm the cause, refuse to sit on a panel when parity efforts have not been made;
- Recommend expert women to the organizer;
- Fill the form for suggesting expert women;
- Inform my network that I am participating to the event;
- Invite a woman to the event;
- Denounce abusive or repressible behaviours I witness;
- Read, understand, sign and promote the manifesto within my network;
- Encourage women to ask questions;
- Use gender-neutral writing;
- Express clearly my needs in terms of work-life balance to find a solution if I have a problem.
